As a career coach, Forbes’ “Top 10” list of cities for tech job growth piqued my interest.

Especially because the top 3 cities are “flyover cities” in the middle of the country – Minnesota, Utah and Nebraska!  Of course this is based on growth rate, not absolute number of jobs.  The heavy presence of high tech workers in Silicon Valley and in the Northeast in Boston and New York make it hard to match the absolute growth rate.  As stated in the article, the highest absolute number of jobs added in 2015 remains in California and New York.

So if you are in any of the STEM careers – science, tech, engineering, and math – and are willing to re-locate, don’t just focus on opportunities on the coasts.   Consider the other states listed by Forbes.  For more detailed relocation steps, or help with other career planning issues, schedule a meeting by clicking below, contact Joni Lindquist –jlindquist@makinglifecount.com, or call (913) 345-1881.
