Great post by Travis Bradberry of TalentSmart regarding how successful people maintain self-control during times of stress.
Self-control is much more difficulty in the “moment” when you are under stress. Dr. Bradberry identifies some actions and thoughts that, if you practice consistently, will help you build a foundation to draw upon when stress really hits. I suggest clients choose two or three of these times to focus on. Choose those that; one, you think will help you the most and two that are a bit easier for you to implement. Perhaps you do it occasionally already, now work to build it into a habit – one you do almost always. Once you master those, move on to some of the others listed in Dr. Bradberry’s post. Don’t try to do too much. Work on the few of these for several months, then check on yourself in three to four months and determine if you are ready to move on to others.
